The Holy Epistle to the Hebrews, Volume 1
The Holy Epistle to the Hebrews, Volume 1
Sermons on a Messianic Jewish Approach
The Epistle to the Hebrews has been almost universally misunderstood as a sustained argument for replacement theology: Christianity’s replacement of Judaism and the obsolescence of the Torah. The conventional interpretation declares an end to the Levitical priesthood, the sacrificial services, the Temple, and Israel’s covenant with God. Judaism is “becoming obsolete and growing old [and] ready to vanish away” because it is being replaced by a new religion that is not under the Law (Hebrews 8:13). This misinterpretation of the epistle fits hand-in-glove with the misinterpretation of Paul that has informed Christendom for most of two thousand years.
Torah Club author, D. Thomas Lancaster, challenges those assumptions by offering a post-supersessionist reading from a Messianic Jewish perspective on the text. Lancaster provides readers with the missing historical context and Jewish concepts necessary to understand the epistle within Judaism rather than in antithesis to it. This easy-to-read collection of teachings and commentary is practical, theological, and full of surprises.
